A windscreen is a structural part of the car, not just a window. It carries roof load in a rollover and it is what the passenger airbag pushes against. That is why the fitting matters as much as the glass, and why we prepare and prime the frame properly rather than working to a clock.
What is involved
What a proper replacement actually takes
We cut out the old windscreen, clean the pinch weld back and prime it. This is where leaks and wind noise are prevented, and it is the step that gets rushed. The new glass is then bonded in with the right urethane for the vehicle and the conditions on the day.
Windscreens vary far more than people expect. Rain sensors, light sensors, heated wiper park areas, acoustic interlayers, head-up display zones, heating elements and antenna strips all change the part number. Two cars of the same model can take different glass depending on how they were optioned, so we confirm the exact windscreen your vehicle needs before we quote.
If your car has a forward-facing camera behind the glass, the replacement is only half the job. The system has to be recalibrated afterwards. We check that when you book, not when we arrive.

What decides the cost of the glass
There is no single price for a windscreen. Five things decide it.
Make, model and build year
A common sedan windscreen is a high-volume part. A late-model European SUV or a low-production variant is not, and the glass costs more before anyone touches the car.
What is built into the glass
Sensors, heating elements, acoustic interlayers and head-up display zones all add cost, and they change which part number your car takes.
Cameras and driver-assist systems
Recalibration after the fitting is the single biggest jump in cost on modern vehicles, and it is not optional on a car that requires it.
Glass sourcing
There is a real difference between original equipment glass, original-equivalent and aftermarket, in price and sometimes in optical quality. We tell you which one we are quoting on.
Where the vehicle is
Mobile service is included in what we quote. We would rather build the travel into the quote than surprise you with a call-out line afterwards.

Windscreen replacement questions
How long does a windscreen replacement take?
The fitting itself is usually the shortest part of the visit. What extends it is the adhesive cure time before the car is safe to drive, and recalibration if your vehicle has a camera behind the glass. We give you the full picture when you book, including exactly how long before the car is safe to drive.
Can it be done at my home or workplace?
Yes. That is how we do most jobs. We need room to open both front doors and walk the length of the windscreen, and somewhere reasonably sheltered if it is raining hard, because urethane adhesive does not cure properly in the wet.
Do you handle the ADAS calibration as well?
Where the vehicle requires it, we arrange the calibration as part of the job and coordinate it with the replacement, so you are dealing with one booking rather than chasing a second appointment.
Does insurance cover it?
Most comprehensive policies in NSW do, often with a separate glass excess that is lower than the standard excess. Whether it is worth claiming depends on how your excess compares with the cost of the job. Check your policy or ask your insurer, cover varies.
