Intelligent Driver Assistance System reads the road through the windscreen, so replacing the glass moves the camera and the system has to be recalibrated rather than merely reconnected.
Isuzu Ute calls its driver-assistance package Intelligent Driver Assistance System. The part that concerns us is the camera behind the windscreen. It reads lane markings, the vehicle ahead and, on most systems, pedestrians, and it does that through the glass.
Take the old windscreen out and put a new one in, even a perfect fit, and the camera is no longer looking at the world from exactly the same angle. A few tenths of a degree at the glass becomes metres of error at a hundred metres down the road. That is why Intelligent Driver Assistance System needs recalibrating after a replacement rather than merely being reconnected.
